Welcome back to 2019-2020 school year!
I’m so excited to be back and teach music at Hawthorn Elementary North again!
- It is wonderful to see the anticipation, excitement, and motivation in every child 's face.
- We jump right back into singing, dancing, and playing
- instruments, as if we have never left.
My goal is to have all students become musical in 3 ways:
1. Tuneful - Listen, produce tunes, and learn to coordinate
voices to sing in tunes.
2. Beatful - Feel the pulse of music and how that pulse is
grouped in two’s, three’s, and four’s, etc. Move and
show the steady beat in various ways. Then, move
on to learn complex rhythms.
3. Artful - Emotionally connected to beautiful music and
express the feelings in own way.

Creativity scores in the standardized tests among all school-aged children have consistently declined since 1990 in all grades, especially in K - Gr. 3. One of the reasons contributing to this discouraging tread is the reduction of Music and Art curriculums and playtime.
We have left little room for imagination and creative thinking!!
Music is the essence of childhood learning - Laying the groundwork for the academic skills like reading and math, developing social/emotional skills like encouraging freedom of expression, playfulness, and the imagination.
Music is the holistic gift that every child deserves, and one
that will last a life time ♪
