Mrs. Kim’s Music Class in January
Happy New Year!
We start 2019 with many new songs about Peace and Harmony.
What could be better than to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday with songs and talk about Peace and Harmony? The 3rd graders will learn songs from the Civil Rights' movement, such as “Back of the Bus“ and “Amazing Grace." These music helps us to connect and understand the important part of American culture and history.
(The Common Core Standards, Anchor #10, #11)
Kindergarten and 1st grade students will celebrate their diversity and
uniqueness. Their favorite songs are “You and Me” for 1st grade, "Sing
about Martin" and “Bonjour me amis” (Hello, my friends - French Folk
Dance) for Kindergarten.
One of my favorite songs/activities is called, “We Shall Over Come." We always sing this song in a circle, joining the right hand over the left hand, symbolizing right over wrong. When we sing this song, we always feel that we are all in this cause together. Students often end this activity with a spontaneous applause. The song/activity like this which conveys an important message always touches our hearts, children's and adults’ alike. I'm looking forward to singing this song with students again this year.
Best Wishes to you and your family in 2019!
