All children are musical!
Music is an essential part of life. Research shows that music has a positive effect on all children and that all children can achieve basic music competency. Children can learn to sing in tune, move to the beat, and express sensitivity to music if surrounded by musical environment from young ages.
Here at Hawthorn Elementary North, it is my passion to have all children experience rich and diverse music from all genre and around the world. A variety of engaging activities are carefully planned to help children's natural musical abilities come alive. I absolutely believe that playful participation in singing, listening, dancing/moving, creating, and playing instruments can ensure children’s musical growth and ultimately lead to a personal fulfillment and love of music for a life time.
Musical skill is also well known to benefit children's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development. Howard Gardner's “Multiple Intelligence Theory” adopted by our school also values musical intelligence and recognizes the belief that music plays an important role in children’s well-rounded and comprehensive education.
I love teaching music! Every child must have an active, joyful music making in school. For me, teaching music is about sharing the joy of music with children. I'm teaching beautiful, young human beings. It is my job to nurture their humanity and their souls while supporting their
growth as artful music makers (BethAnn Hepburn and Roger Sams). I look forward to
sharing a wonderful musical experience with your children at Hawthorn Elementary North.
